The Smoky Maria takes the classic Bloody Maria and leans into its Mexican roots: a blanco tequila and mezcal base, a chile-lime salt rim, and a genuine wisp of smoke curling off the glass. It's built for anyone who wants their brunch cocktail to double as a small performance.

Ingredients
  • Blanco tequila1.5 oz
  • Mezcal0.5 oz
  • Clamato (or tomato juice)4 oz
  • Fresh lime juice0.5 oz
  • Hot sauce2 dashes
  • Worcestershire sauce2 dashes
  • Chile-lime salt, for the rim1 tbsp
  • Ice1 fill
  • Charred lime wheel (garnish)1
  • Jalapeño slice (garnish)1
  • Pickled cucumber spear (garnish)1
Instructions
  1. 1Wet the rim of a tall glass and coat it with chile-lime salt.
  2. 2Fill the glass with ice.
  3. 3Add the tequila, mezcal, Clamato, lime juice, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. 4Stir gently to combine.
  5. 5Garnish with a charred lime wheel, jalapeño slice, and pickled cucumber spear.
  6. 6For the smoke, briefly torch a small wood chip over the glass and cover for a few seconds before serving.
Note Char the lime wheel on a hot dry skillet or with a kitchen torch — it adds a bitter edge that plays well against the smoke and heat.
